Genesis
Four years of shaping. One year of becoming.

Omni was founded in 2021 with a conviction: the tools humans depend on should fully belong to them. Open by default, portable by design, yours to keep; personal data does not belong in the hands of those you don't even know. Currently, most of the digital tools people use siphon data from them, and we are building the framework to change this.
For the first few years, we built for clients. Universities, startups, state agencies. We learned what it takes to ship software that matters to people and how to scale it to tens of thousands of users. We learned what breaks and what lasts. Every project sharpened the vision of the open-walled community courtyard to be built.
Four years of client work bought us something venture capital can't: patience in cultivation. This gave us time to hone our craft and foster community without stakeholder pressure from outside investors. No pressure to chase growth at the expense of users; freedom to build and let the seeds stratify.
2025 was the year the seeds bore fruit. We began to meld the vision: the ecosystem we'd been shaping in the dark.
π£ Backfeed came first, released in May. Our answer to user feedback scattered across different apps and emails. We launched π± Garden on the summer solstice to help people visualize their ecosystems. As a sister launch, we released the π Omniverse, a visual outline of our ecosystem, powered by Garden. π Runa followed for project management, dropping on the winter solstice.
But two Q4 releases particularly surprised us.
Released in November, the πͺ Reality Development Kit (RDK) provides a unified API for web-based extended reality and spatial computing. Within a couple days of launch, it became our most popular repository. Then on Christmas Day, we dropped π§οΈ typespec-drizzle, a TypeSpec emitter for Drizzle ORM. By the end of the day, it was already our second most starred repository.
We also open-sourced our π company docs, our π Golden style guide collection, our π Tilt extensions, and a handful of templates:
- π¦ Elysia template
- π Metarepo template
- βοΈ React Native template
- π΄ TanStack Start template
Open source compounds in ways proprietary software never can. Everything we build traces back to our twofold mission: reclaim human freedom in the digital world, and provide the fabric for the creator economy.
These are our load-bearing taproots, slogans made manifest in the fruits of our work. Every commit is compost.
2025 was our genesis. The year things took shape, and Omni's vision began to unfold.
In 2026, the ecosystem connects. Roots spreading beneath the surface, mycelial, quiet, then everywhere at once. What looked like patience was germination, with growth timed to seasons longer than quarters. Now, the canopy rises toward the stars.
